HQS Wellington, London was the venue for the IOR Annual General Meeting and Annual Dinner on Thursday 24 March 2011.

Members attending the AGM heard the Chairman Mr Edward Sankey reported on further strong growth in membership, increasing at about 48% per annum over the last two years with new chapters in Scotland and Hong Kong and the expectation of opening further chapters this year.

Also reported was the extension to the Sound Practice Guidance series and that the paper on KRIs has had over 2,000 downloads. There was also an election which saw Mrs Rubina Faber elected as a new Director of the Institute and members were advised that Asim Balouch had been appointed Chairman of the Executive Committee, of the IOR.

John Hurrell, Addressing IOR AGM

The Annual Dinner was addressed by Mr John Hurrell, Chief Executive of AIRMIC. In a very entertaining and humorous speech he made the serious point that although events will always surprise us the role of risk managers in organisations to better prepare ourselves is growing.

Michael Faber receives engraved glass bowl

At the Dinner Mr Michael Faber was presented with an engraved glass bowl to mark his retirement from the Council.

Michael's contribution to the Council has been immense, but he is required to retire having served as many years as allowed under the Articles of Association.

Fortunately, he will continue to lead the IT activities and be on the Executive Committee.

The Chairman Mr Edward Sankey placed on record the IOR's thanks for Michael's wonderful work on the Council.
