The Institute of Operational Risk England and Wales Chapter is pleased to welcome its members to an evening seminar on Tuesday, December 3rd from 16:15 to 18:30, followed by drinks, generously sponsored by Promontory.

It will not have escaped your attention that the EU is currently debating the final text of a new EU-wide Data Protection Regulation. Melanie Shillito, Director, Promontory, will highlight the important changes that the regulation is expected to bring, the impact it will have on firms and what organizations should be doing now to prepare.

Following the presentation, we’ll split into groups and have a discussion on where does Data Protection fit into the Organization and how is it governed? What is the role of Operational Risk, if any, related to Data Protection? What are the challenges posed by the new regulation and how are the firms progressing in preparing for being compliant? As well as debate other questions suggested by participants.

Melanie draws on 25 years of financial services experience, 16 of which specializing in global privacy and data protection requirements, and helps Promontory clients enhance their global privacy and data protection practices, advising on governance strategy and implementation and how to meet global regulatory obligations. She was previously Executive Director of J.P. Morgan’s Privacy and Compliance Services department for the Europe-Middle East-Africa region and was instrumental in the decision to introduce Binding Corporate Rules (BCRs) at J.P. Morgan.  Earlier in her career, Melanie worked as Group Data Protection Officer at Fidelity Investments International and Head of Group Data Protection at NatWest Bank. She also has extensive experience in advising on data protection in relation to employee matters. Melanie belongs to many professional bodies, including AFME, BBA Data Protection Working Party, and others.

The event is free to IOR members. There will be a £50 charge to non-members.
