Operational risk is a very active discipline and there is a lot happening globally across topics such as cyber, conduct, fraud and process failures. In this session, the expert speakers will share and discuss some of the most significant operational risk events which were reported in the media in the first half of 2018. The expert speakers for this session will be Philip White and Tim Bailey.
Philip has spent over 30 years in the Financial Services industry covering most aspects of the business. Starting his career at the Bank of England, Philip then spent 18 years at Lloyds Bank initially in the early development of electronic banking products researching the market place and working closely with small but innovative software companies. Stints in Finance, Commercial Banking and business strategy followed before he led the Sarbanes Oxley Programme for Group Operations. Leaving Lloyds to set up his own risk consultancy, Philip settled again at UBS post the financial crisis becoming their Head of Framework for Operational Risk in 2011 adding Compliance to that portfolio in 2014. Philip joined Thomson Reuters in September 2017 to lead Business Development for Financial and Risk in Europe.
Tim has over 20 years experience in the banking sector in Front and Middle office, Operations, Technology, Finance and Risk at some of the world’s largest, most complex and innovative financial organisations. Prior to founding 1RS, he gained extensive experience in most sectors and functions of financial services from senior roles at JPMorgan, UBS, HSBC, Standard Bank and Bank of America, with over a decade spent running and reengineering risk functions in the 1st and 2nd line at business aligned, function and group level. Tim has deep knowledge and experience of designing and implementing all aspects of internal control and operational risk frameworks and systems, and managing complex change initiatives required to satisfy regulatory and business requirements. Tim has also successfully overseen significant regulatory remediation programmes, and regulatory inspections within operational risk.
This session will be hosted by Manoj Kulwal. Manoj is the Chief Risk Officer at RiskSpotlight and supports the webinar initiative for the IOR. He has 18 years of professional experience covering operational risk management, enterprise risk management, strategic performance management and business intelligence. He been involved in risk management related industry initiatives such as revision of the ISO 31000 risk management standard and development of the Certification of Operational Risk Management (CORM) at IOR. He is actively involved in consulting and training related engagements on operational risk management. He also led development of world’s first forward looking web-based operational risk news service – RiskSpotlight Portal.
